An Overview Of Communities Defined
A community may be defined as a group of people who live together in a certain locale, share a common government and normally have some type of historical heritage, as well as some type of common culture. While there is no simple answer when deciding how big a community needs to be there are some points that are considered, including the issues involved and the community itself. Often times communities benefit in ways that are not always normal or standard, and that is when someone is able to donate to the community as a way of giving back some of what was given to them.
Community is a label that explains the bonding that normally occurs between members of a group due to the commonality shared between the members. This commonality may serve as the catalyst to provide support and loyalty to each other in a community development. Community help often takes the form of a philanthropist who decides to give back to the community that supported them. There is no set way that this type of giving should be done or is done and many times it sets a precedent for others to follow.
Naturally, a community exists where there are common elements tying them together, but that is not the only way of defining communities. Even belonging to the school PTA is a form of community as you have the common goal of improving the quality of life for the children. Philanthropists can give back to their local community in many different ways, such as by donating funds for a new hospital wing. Or, they may donate their time to a worthwhile cause, such as reading for children at the library.
Many times different types of community service “sentences” are given to individuals who have broken the law, in some minor way. On the flip side, someone involved with philanthropy actually does community service as a way of saying thank you and as a way of giving back to the community that gave so much to them.
Most of the time a community does have specific goals, although it may not always be obvious what that goal is. It may pertain to improving local charities or improving the streets. Communities are not about individuals, they are about the people that live in them and how they can live together, hopefully in harmony. That may be one reason why giving back to your local community is a popular concept to many philanthropists.
